If You Have Continual Problems With Your Feet You May Need Orthopedic Shoes

March 24th, 2010

Everyone feels some discomfort from their shoes from time to time, but what if you have foot problems all the time you are wearing shoes? Pain can become a part of everyday life as high heeled shoes create problems in your toes, feet, and ankles. Stiff or cheap dress shoes can cause an unnatural gait that leads to problems that go beyond the feet. Doctors are often pressed to find a solution to problem feet. Orthopedic shoes are one solution.

If you can shed your ill-fitting shoes for pairs that are an appropriate size and shape for your feet, you may not need orthopedic shoes. As long as your shoes are properly sized and constructed, they will protect your feet from damage. Not only will the shoes help you avoid damage from the environment such as sticks or glass on the ground. They will also stop any foot problems that have been starting to happen due to poor shoe choices as long as it is not to late to recover that easily.

For people who just cannot find shoes that are shaped to fit their feet, no amount of breaking in will change the fact that the shoes are not appropriate for their feet. Perhaps, they simply have feet that are not shaped the same way as the feet that average shoes were designed to fit. These and other foot problems can be addressed with a good pair of orthopedic shoes.

Orthopedic shoes are ideal for people who have overly wide feet. Many times, people with feet that are somewhat wide can find shoes in the regular shoe stores that come in wide or extra wide widths. Men’s shoes and women’s shoes alike can be purchased from catalogues that specialize for people with wide feet. However, you might have feet that are exceptionally wide. It may be a natural state or it may be due to any number of medical conditions. In any case, orthopedic shoes can be made especially for you based on the measurements of your feet.

Arch support is a tricky subject. Many people with flat feet do not like the feeling of wearing anything with arch supports. Yet, proper arch support will make them feel stronger and cut down on the pain they experience as they walk and stand throughout the day. Orthopedic shoes can be fitted to provide just the right arch supports that will not feel unnaturally high to the person with flat feet. At the same time, the arch supports will add strength to the foundation the person stands on. Orthopedic shoes can be fitted to any height of arch from flat to high. Everyone needs good arch support.

If your problems with your feet are very painful, it is best to see a doctor to rule out serious conditions that would require medical treatments or surgeries. If the doctor determines that you need orthopedic shoes, you will be sent to get them. Doctors sometimes go into great detail on a prescription for the orthopedic shoes, and other times, they give a simple note and a referral to an orthopedic shoe store. At that point, it is up to you to follow through and get the orthopedic shoes that you so need.

Shoe Lacing Tips – Get a Better Shoe Fit

March 3rd, 2010

Here are a few shoe lacing tips that can help you prevent foot injuries, reduce pain and relieve some foot problems. They encourage people with specific foot problems to use these techniques to help get a good fit with your shoe.

First the general stuff ‘just in case you forgot’. Well …maybe not you but we might forget! We’re rather ’seasoned’ after all!

When you put on your shoe, don’t just step into them – use your hands. Loosen the laces to make it easier to get your foot into the shoe. It will reduce the tightness on the eyelets and the backs of the shoes. To get the most comfortable fit, start your lacing nearest the toes and snug them up one set of eyelets at a time. Check the number of eyelets. The more your shoes have, the easier to adjust for a custom fit. The ever-popular crisscross lacing, where you work from the bottom to the top, does the trick for most folks.

Now for some of the ‘good shoe lacing stuff’. These shoe lacing patterns can all help you adapt shoes to feet when you just can’t get quite the perfect fit off the shelf. Shoe lacing patterns help to make sure you get the best fitting shoes possible!

NOTE: For the narrow and wide feet, shoes with double eyelet rows are used for shoe lace tying.

Narrow Feet

Narrow feet? Lace up using the eyelets furthest from the shoe tongue of the shoe. You bring up the side of the shoe this way and can adjust the snuggness to suit you.

Wide Feet

Got wide feet? You can lace up using the eyelets closest to the shoe tongue. This relaxes the sides of your shoes for more comfort with wider feet.

Heel Problems

Heel fit problems? You want to make sure the part of the shoe closet to your heel is snug and the part by your toes is roomier. How? Use every other eyelet when you lace up. Stop at the next to last eyelet on each side and lace through the last eyelet to make a small loop. Thread the opposite lace through each loop before you tie them.

Narrow Heel and Wide Forefoot

Got narrow heel and wide forefoot? This one is a bit tricky. Use two shoe laces for each shoe. Work one lace through the bottom half of the eyelets. Lace through the top half of the eyelets with the second lace. The top eyelets should be more snug as this supports your heel. The bottom eyelets should be tied to fit comfortably on your forefoot. You might want to experiment a bit with this until it feels best for you.

So – there you have it. Just a few little shoe lacing tips to help you out in special shoe fitting situations. Try them out. See if they help. If so, you’ve got some more good info in your ’shoe fitting’ tool chest!

We hope you found this of value.

March 3rd, 2010

For most women one of the greatest pleasures in life is shopping for shoes. That is unless they have wide feet. For women with wider than normal feet buying wide womens shoes can be a problem. Even when they manage to find wide width shoes the styles and varieties is usually very limited and many of the shoes are not particularly attractive.

The fact is that as we at age things tend to get wider this includes our feet. Also pregnant women and women have gone through pregnancy experience an expansion of their feet due to the extra weight and water retention so finding comfortable shoes becomes imperative. The wide width womens shoes are designed to help you easily fit into the latest fashion shoes and boots with comfort and style.

It’s not really surprising to learn that ladies have a tendency to wear the wrong size shoe or boot just to feel a little more comfortable. The problem is that narrow or regular sized shoes may well become too painful to wear and if there are no wide womens shoe sizes available, so picking the wrong size seems like the ideal solution to the problem. It’s not! Not only are many of the narrow style shoes (such as stiletto heel shoes) not designed for wider feet they actually do not look good in the wide width fittings.

Avoiding Foot Problems

Getting the right size show is not just about comfort and fit. It’s about avoiding foot problems and caring for the health of your feet. Medical studies have found that almost everyone will have some form of foot problem during their lifetime and over 70% of elderly people suffer from complaints of the feet. Many of these cases are severe enough that medical advice was sought by visiting a doctor. So it comes as no surprise to learn that the leading form of foot problems was caused by ill fitting shoes.

Wearing shoes that are too narrow causes a number of different problems. The most serious of these problems, called a neuroma, is caused when shoes are too narrow. They compress the balls of the feet together casing the nerves to be pinched and it can be very painful. In some cases pain killing injections are required and at the most extreme surgery may be needed. If left untreated neuroma can lead to a substantial loss of feeling in the foot and even when corrected by medication or surgery it may return with continued wearing of poorly fitting or too narrow shoes. Moving up a size or two is not the solution as the shoes will still not fit correctly. The only solution is to buy wider fitting womens shoes.

Some of the more common issues that can be caused by poorly fitting shoes are calluses or even bunions. Calluses, are not usually painful can be unsightly as the skin hardens. Bunions on the other hand can be extremely painful and may need treatment. All of these conditions can be alleviated or even avoided By wearing correct sized shoes. Many women will make the mistake of thinking that by wearing larger sized shoes they will be wide enough for a good, comfortable fit. This is not true, selecting wide womens shoes with the correct width fitting will ease any current problems and help avoid issues in the future.

But it’s not all bad news! Now there is a wide range of wide width womens shoes available across the internet due to the greater demand. Shoe manufacturers are finally realizing this and have started producing wide womens shoes in many new fashionable styles. So now you can look great and feel good too!
