A Sport For Every Shoe – A Shoe For Every Sport

March 6th, 2010

There are as many types of athletic shoes as there are athletes. Name a sport and there’s a specialty shoe out here somewhere. Running, walking, hiking and basketball shoes can be found just about anywhere, but what about wrestling, ice climbing, fencing, table tennis or luge shoes? Not quite so easy. In the olden days, back before the Internet, finding a source for these kinds of specialty athletic shoes used to involve either knowing the right person, who could tell you who to contact, or a trip to the library.

Nowadays, all you need is to let your fingers do the walking on your keyboard. Sites like WWSports carry wrestling and volleyball shoes. Eastern Mountain Sports deals in any outdoor activity shoes like ice climbing, hiking or kayaking you can ask for. You can even find vegan sports shoes that are environmentally friendly and use no animal products. Some athletic companies manufacture only a very limited range of athletic shoes to compliment street styles or for very specific sports.

Other companies, like Adidas, Nike and Asics actually manufacture shoes for just about any sport you can come up with. Adidas, for one, makes shoes for both fencing and luge, among many other sports. Look up either the name of the sport along with the word shoes and prepare to be floored by the number of different brands, styles and types of sports shoes there are. You could also search by preferred manufacturers. So, get out there and enjoy that obscure sport you saw during off-hour coverage of the Olympics- there’s a shoe out there for you.

Dance the Night Away in the Perfect Pair of Prom Shoes

February 10th, 2010

It’s prom season and for many girls this means a mad dash to find the perfect dress. In fact, a large majority of the time you spend shopping will be dedicated to looking through hundreds of dresses in hopes of finding the perfect one. So much time is spent looking for the dress that shoes often take a back seat in the prom essentials search. Shoes can make or break your entire prom night attire and therefore you should make it a point to choose the best pair to compliment your dress. Use these tips to help you find a great pair of shoes to dance you through your perfect prom night.

Choosing a Style: Choose a shoe that compliments the shape of your foot, your height, and your dress. Don’t be tempted to buy a shoe based on what they look like on the shelf. First and foremost, choose a shoe that works well with the width and size of your foot. Peep toe sandals are generally a great choice. Not only are they in this season but they work well with the majority of foot types. Never try to wear a style that doesn’t compliment your feet. For example, if you have wider feet you may not want to choose those sleek strappy sandals you saw. Another important decision to make when choosing a shoe style is to determine if you want flats or heels, and if you wear heels what size heel you prefer. For those of you who are extremely tall, it’s your lucky year. Ballet flats are definitely in and they make very cute, comfy, and elegant prom shoes. For those of you who prefer heels, look for ones that compliment the height of your date. Break Them In: Breaking your shoes in before the prom is a great way to prevent uncomfortable blisters that can spring up from brand new shoes, especially high heels. Once you get your shoes, slip them on and pretend you’re already at the prom Walk around your living room, dance like your all alone, and take a few trips up and down the stairs. Not only will this get them ready for the big night, but you will also learn how to walk in them. When you do try on your shoes, make if a point to do so later in the day. Your feet tend to swell up over the course of day and trying them on at night is the best time to make sure they fit right. Be Prepare With Back Ups: No matter how comfortable your shoes may be a night of dancing will have you begging for a break. Treat your feet after prom with a comfy pair of alternatives shoes. If your concerned about fashion, consider looking for a pair of ballet flats that are as cute as they are comfortable. You can even pack a pair of flip flops or sneakers to give your feet the comfort they deserve after carrying you across the dance floor.

How To Choose The Best Prom Shoes For Teenage Boys And Girls

January 1st, 2010

Before you know it Prom will be here for your teenager. This is one of the few opportunities they get to get really dressed up in formalwear and have a real date. Girls in particular have been thinking about this since they were little and have the idea of the perfect date and going out for dinner and dancing firmly implanted in their minds. When I was that age even though the prom was a big deal, we didn’t spend anywhere close to what kids these days are spending on prom night. These days both boys and girls alike are spending hundreds of dollars on their special evenings.

As far as dresses go, Prom dresses are being bought and worn of all different types of styles and colors with some girls going for the longer more traditional look and some of the more daring ones going for the shorter dresses. Regardless of the style or color they choose they all realize that the right shoes are a critical part of their Prom wear. Knowing that they will probably be dancing quite a bit, all prom goers should be concerned with comfort. It will be tough to smile and dance the night away if your shoes are causing you to get blisters or just making your feet ache. Be sure that the shoes you choose are comfortable to walk in and dance in. Don’t think that you will just take them off and dance barefoot, you can end up stepping in something gross on the floor or possibly even cut your foot on broken glass.

If you are wearing a short dress you may want to think about getting a nice strapped sandal that looks young and stylish. To compliment an elegant long dress you can wear short heels or as some choose a ballet slipper. Stay with a look that is feminine regardless of what you choose. Take the time to look at many different styles and colors so that you have the best possible combination you can.

Now on to the guys, the majority of who will wear a tux to the Prom just like I did well over 20 years ago. Okay, closer to thirty years ago but never mind that! Some of the guys will go with the traditional cummerbund and bowtie and others may opt for a different look. A lot of teenage boys will just go with the shoes that come with their rented tuxedo because they just don’t care whether they have the latest fashion or not. Still, you need to take the style of your date’s dress into consideration and attempt to coordinate your style with hers. Of course you don’t have to match exactly but your outfits should compliment each other.
